Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Trekking Safaris

Experience an unforgettable Mountain Gorilla Trekking Safari in Rwanda. Stay at the foot of the spectacular Virunga Volcanoes National Park, home to endangered Mountain Gorillas and join a small group of visitors for Gorilla Trekking. Gorilla Trekking in these mountains is an enthralling experience and watching the Silverback Gorillas in its natural surroundings with its troop is unforgettable. The lush green hills and valleys on the way provide a stunningly beautiful scenery.

Small groups of fortunate visitors can experience gorilla trekking in the Virungas rainforest - one of the most memorable wildlife encounters on earth. The minimum age for gorilla trekking in Rwanda is 15 years. A maximum of 8 visitors are permitted per group.
A high degree of physical fitness is not required for this Mountain Gorilla Trekking, although you must be capable of hiking at higher altitudes for 3-4 hours. Visitors generally arrange to trek for two consecutive days to see these majestic Mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat because the experience is so powerful.

Once you reach the gorillas you are permitted to stay for one hour to view them. The guide will advise you to observe the Gorilla Safety rules when you reach the troop. Immerse yourself in the ways and role-play of these gigantic primates. Should visitors find themselves in a silverback’s presence, they will be advised to assume a submissive, non-threatening attitude. Once his confidence has been restored, the gorilla goes on about his business, accepting the intruder/visitor.

Officially known as the Republic of Rwanda, this beautiful country, also known as the 'Land of a Thousand Hills', is a landlocked jewel. From tranquil lakes to misty rainforest and rolling grass plains, Rwanda has a number of unique delights to offer travelers. Home to the Mountain Gorillas, Parc National des Volcans in the Virunga volcanoes. Large troops of Colobus monkeys and a rich variety of Orchids can be found in the Nyangwe Natural Forest. The Akagera National Park is rich with wildlife such as the elephants, hippo and crocodile and a vast species of birds can be found throughout Rwanda making this another ornithological hotspot, while to the west Lake Kivu's startlingly blue water surrounded by white sandy shores offers the ideal extended holiday destination in Rwanda.

The late Dian Fossey studied the behavior of the endangered mountain gorilla for two decades at Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda before her mysterious murder in 1985. The mountain gorillas are immortalized in her story in the book 'Gorillas in the Mist’ which was later adapted for a film starring Sigourney Weaver.

Best Time to visit Rwanda
Rwanda is an year-round destination. However, the best time for 'Gorilla Trek Adventure' is generally the dry season from June through September and mid December through February.
